At the end of the day isn’t that what it is all about? Most of us went into business to “make the most amount of money in the least amount of time with the least amount of financial and emotional capital invested”. Sound familiar? If so, let me go out on a very scary limb here …
In my humble opinion, the fastest and easiest money with the least problems and total investment in this business is found in medium sized residential water losses. In and out in a week or less and the money shortly thereafter with direct pay from the agent many times. And with a net profit usually exceeding 50%. Now I know many people think fire and water damage go hand in hand. And they can. After all, I did a lot of fire restoration.
But both I and a lot of our SFS members went into fire restoration just to “protect our flanks” and keep other companies from gaining a foothold with “our” adjusters and agents and then start to nibble away at our W/D market. What we found out was that F/R is almost totally a different business. And that, my friends, is the subject for another post …
My two cents,
Steve
P.S. On the other hand, the big profits of fire restoration have made more multi-millionaires in this industry than any other type of work. I always say you can make a good living cleaning carpets, become “well off” doing regular commercial contract cleaning, become wealthy with water damage and stinking rich with fires. That is what is so great about this industry- Whatever floats your boat. Tell me what you think …
