Hi Steve,
We are currently running ads for allergen cleanings AND I am the one in the office that takes all incoming calls to schedule the appointments. So I was wondering if you can assist me with more information on allergens and allergy cleanings in general. I’m also in need of info on the anti-allergens products as well. Any & all assistance would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to hearing from you.
Diversifying in Denver
Thanks for writing in, Diversifying! Adding extra Additional Service Options is almost always a good thing IF you ‘do it right’! And part of doing it right is to get the technical side down.
As all of my SFS Training graduates know- I don’t remotely pretend to be a technical expert anymore! However, I have an associate that literally wrote the book on myuch of the technical standards of our industry, Mr. Bill Yeadon! Bill, can you weigh in here?
Bill: Congratulations on adding a very needed and very lucrative add-on service. Masterblend has created several products under the Responsible Care System Anti-Allergen brand name to combat allergies and other indoor air issues.
Steve: I’ll second Bill’s praise. You need to “differentiate” your company from all the other carpet cleaners out there and one great way is by offering services that the simple “rug-suckers” haven’t yet implemented or even learned about. Not only will you make more money while you are on-site but also people will talk about your great new service to their friends.
NOTE: Before Bill continues with his excellent technical commentary let me urge you not to leave before you read my cautions about this ‘allergy relief cleaning’ in the last paragraph of this article!
Bill: Here are the uses and directions for each product I recommend:
Anti-Allergen PreSpray is hypoallergenic and designed for safe use around individuals who suffer from allergies, asthma, or chemical sensitivities. Use it as a pre-spray when cleaning carpet, upholstery, or mattresses and prior to an application of Allergy Relief Treatment.
Environmentally safe Anti-Allergen PreSpray does not contain pesticides, perfumes, harmful solvents, or other hazardous ingredients. Derived from renewable plant source surfactants. It is non-toxic to humans, animals, and plants.
Pump up sprayer: Mix one part Anti-Allergen PreSpray with 10 parts water (12 ounces per gallon of water). Mix well, apply to carpet, and agitate with a pile brush or rake. Or to apply with an inline sprayer: Use undiluted with a 10:1 metering tip.
For use on wool: Mix 1 part Anti-Allergen PreSpray with 16 parts hot water (8 ounces per gallon). Mix well and apply to carpet.
Formulated to meet or exceed all established standards of wool fiber producers and fifth generation stain-resistant manufacturers.
All Fiber Rinse is hypoallergenic and designed for homeowners that are sensitive to harsh chemicals and suffer from allergies. Best when used as the final rinse when cleaning carpets or other textiles to remove soil and other detergent residues. (Anti-Allergen All Fiber Rinse is safe for all types of fibers, including wool.)
Truck mounts: Mix one quart of Anti-Allergen All Fiber Rinse with 5 gallons of water, meter at 2:4. Or with portables mix 2 oz per gallon of water.
Anti-Allergen Deodorizer is a non-fragranced oxidizing deodorizer and does not contain perfumes, solvents, or pesticides. This product reacts with the odor by oxidizing and converting malodors into odor-free compounds, going straight to the source of the odor. For use on all types of odors and fibers. Anti-Allergen Deodorizer is formulated for residential use.
Dilution: 12 oz per gallon of water.
Allergy Relief Treatment is an effective and safe way to control dust mite allergens and is an aqueous solution that contains active ingredients derived from naturally occurring extracts found in certain fruit seeds and plants. It works by instantly deactivating the DER pI in house dust mite droppings by de-naturing and substantially reducing the IgE antibody-binding capacity of this allergen.
Dilution: This is a ready-to-use product that is sprayed on like a fabric protector.
Steve: Thanks, Bill! So in conclusion, folks, let me frighten the bejeebers out of you! Remember that allergy analysis/ treatment/ control is a highly complex medical and emotional situation. So be VERY cautious about guaranteeing (or even giving the PERCEPTION of guaranteeing) complete allergy relief.
After all, for all you know the sufferer’s problems may be food related (or ‘whatever related’!) and YOU will take the blame when the cleaning doesn’t solve it! (OR the problems may be due to psychological issues for all you know!) So be very, very sure to pre-qualify the job both verbally and in writing.
